One year ago Father Donald Hornsey asked me to find help from the New Zealand church to complete the building of a chapel in his parish of Combapata in Peru.
The chapel would be at the heart of a new Catechetical Centre established to provide formation for lay ministers in the region of Sicuani, near Cusco, Peru.
Since the missionary from Morrinsville is held in high regard among the clergy, my first thought was to bring the need to the attention of fellow priests.
Fifty generous responses came from priests in every diocese across the country, and the sum of NZ$12,300 was forwarded to Peru in September.
Father Don reports this month that he has completed the building project and has commenced the first of twelve five-day catechetical courses for 2011.
The Combapata community has also conveyed appreciation for support towards training men and women to be missionaries and leaders in their own culture.
Again, I extend gratitude to you for your interest and concern for mission work.
Wishing you every blessing of health and harmony,
Wishing you every blessing,
Father Michael Gormly
