About the Church in China
Rationale
he Church in China, like the rest of the country, is experiencing enormous change at this time. It is looking to collaborate with the Church in other countries. Although many Australian politicians, academics and business people are busy developing relations with China, the Church in Australia has very few relationships with the Church in China, nor is the Christian community in Australia being prophetic about Australia's developing relationships with China.
Given the Columban Mission Society's history in China, the Columban Centre for Churches and China aims to provide a real service to the Church in Australia and in China.
Activities of the Centre
- The Centre provides up-to-date information on the Catholic Church in China. Through the Columban Mission Institute library and Resource Centre, there are plenty of research possibilities.
- The Centre works with Cantonese and Mandarin-speaking Catholic communities in Sydney.
- The Centre organises conferences and facilitates a network of Christian people interested in the developing relationships with China.
- The centre publishes a newsletter called "China Exchange".
- The Centre collaborates with AITECE (an association for placing Catholic teachers in Chinese universities).
