PEJ - Campaigns
The Centre for Peace, Ecology and Justice has engaged in a number of ongoing campaigns closely related to its work. It also occasionally supports shorter term campaigns. Some of the campaigns currently active are listed below.
Voting for Values
NetAct, a coalition of Catholic Social Justice, Welfare and Educational Agencies of which the Columban Centre for Peace Ecology and Justice is a member, has prepared a kit entitled Voting for our Values to be used in conjunction with the Federal Election Election 2007. (more)
Chocolate, Slavery & Debt
There is an interesting but
largely unrecognised link between our eating habits, and the people who produce
what we eat. One connection is between the production and marketing of
chocolate, slave labour and the debt burden of poor countries. This link
demonstrates how our love of chocolate can sometimes increase the suffering of
our brothers and sisters in the Third World. (more)
Drop the Debt - The International Debt Crisis
The Columban Centre for Peace, Ecology and Justice is actively involved in the National Working Group and the Campaign Group of Jubilee Australia. www.jubileeaustralia.org. Jubilee Australia is the only Australian organization researching, lobbying and campaigning to find solutions to the debt crisis. Indebtedness directly affects the people with whom the Columbans work around the world including in countries such as the Philippines, Pakistan and Peru. (more)
