HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PILGRIMAGE

  • Learn about Celtic Spirituality and visit important monastic sites in Ireland.

  • Visit the Irish headquarters of Columban Fathers and Columban Sisters in Ireland.

  • Visit the sites of monasteries founded by St Columban in France, Austria and Italy.

  • Enjoy spectacular scenery including:

    1. The Irish countryside.
    2. Eastern France - the Vosges Mountains, ancient towns and monestaries.
    3. Lake Constance at the northern end of the Alps, located on the border between Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
    4. The Swiss Alps - cross the Lucomagno Pass in Switzerland.
    5. Italy - The Apennine Mountains - St Columban's resting place in Bobbio.
    6. Rome - the Eternal City.


TOUR LEADER
The Pilgrimage tour leader will be Irish Born, Fr Tommy Murphy, previous Columban Superior General. He is an expert on Celtic Spirituality (out of which St Columban came). Fr Tommy spent many years in Korea and later in China. In 2010 he led 36 young Columbans on a three week pilgrimage following in the footsteps of our patron, St Columban.

CHAPLAIN
The Chaplain will be Regional Director for Australia and New Zealand, Columban Fr Gary Walker. Fr Gary Walker spent six years on mission in Jamaica. He was elected to the Columban General Council for a six year term and was based in Dublin. This was followed by an appointment as the editor of The Far East Magazine in Australia for 10 years, followed by his appointment as Regional Director.
