Faith & Ecology Network
Who we are:
FEN is an interfaith network.
Our aims:
- to share mutual appreciation of religious traditions regarding ecology
- to discern and foster religious reasons for advocacy about care for the earth.
Currently participants come from the Aboriginal, Anglican, Catholic, Uniting Church, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Islamic and Baha'i traditions. Through the use of a Yahoo Group, members of different faiths are able to actively share their insights on faith and ecology and information about environmental issues and events. FEN conducts an annual seminar.
Background:
The Faith and Ecology Network (FEN) was formed in 2003 during a forum of 120 people at Australian Catholic University, Strathfield. The Forum called "Wonder and the Will to Care", an initiative of the Columban Centre for Peace Ecology and Justice (PEJ), brought faith groups together for the purposes of:
- Promoting and developing the ability of people to wonder at the earth's complexities and their will to care about it
- Highlighting connections between ecology and religion as a contribution to the environmental movement
- Building cooperation on environmental matters between spiritual groups and individuals
- Discussing the creation of a Faith and Ecology Network.
At a 2010 inaugural Eco-Awards Dinner the Faith and Ecology Network (FEN) received the “Spirituality and Ecology Award” for outstanding effort in championing the link between spirituality and ecology.
