Editorial - Fire and faithfulness
01.04.2008
The photograph on the cover of this issue of The Far East is a uniquely Australian symbol that points towards the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. We know now that regeneration of the Australian bush depends on fire destroying the existing bush to create new growth; burnt bush is an ambiguous symbol, new life coming from fire and destruction. Margaret Mary "Molly" Ginnivan was buried last month from St Joseph's Church, Benalla in Victoria. Her son Laurence contacted us to delete her name from our database. She had been a subscriber to The Far East since 1930. Upon investigation, the first note we have from the old data system is that she renewed her subscription in 1930! Laurence has been a supporter since 1988. New life at Easter: the land is being renewed and though the present cost to people is enormous and painful, the same paradigm of death and resurrection is at work in us. We believe that Molly is renewed in God's love and life. I want to thank our supporters, people like Molly and Laurence for their faithfulness to Columban Mission. I ask our God to bless them and you our benefactors and subscribers during this holy Easter season. Click here to read other editorials written by Fr Gary Walker
