Editorial - Why will they say about us?
03.08.2009
Columbans, traditionally, have not been about doing great things, yet many remember us as individuals who have done things in great love.'
Columban Fr George Da Roza uses this sentence in the last paragraph of his article, 'The Red Lacquered Gate' (see pages 4-5).
This sentence struck a chord in me. Self praise is no recommendation for a person or an organisation but it's good to read such a statement just the same. The Red Lacquered Gate is not a history as such but more like a narrative of how St Columban's Mission Society came into being and who the key players were.
St Columban's Mission Society has spent many years in troubled areas of the world. When people are in strife Columban missionaries try to do what they can to ease their suffering.
Kindness has always helped people to recall their humanity, to remember who they were before awful events traumatised them. For anyone involved in God's work, kindness is the way to go at all times and in all seasons.
