Our Expectations
The following are the basic criteria that we look for in anyone offering to become a Columban Missionary Priest:
- single
- male
- committed Catholic actively involved in the life of the church
- aged in twenties or very early thirties
- successfully completed secondary education and willing and able for tertiary studies
- enjoys basic good physical and mental health
- likes people, enjoys the company of friends but is able to stand alone and show leadership on matters of principle
open to people of other cultures and religions - able to work collaboratively in partnership with others e.g. elders, peers, youth, women
- free from family and other obligations that would hinder full participation in Columban formation and missionary life
willing and able to live celibacy freely and joyfully as a sign of God's Kingdom - desire and feel called to dedicate one's whole life to God and to the service of God's people i.e. willing to undertake a permanent lifelong commitment
N.B. We don't expect saints already fully formed, nor do we reject sinners; none of us would qualify in that case! But there must be a readiness to seek and follow God's call and to grow into the qualities that are needed for priestly and missionary service.
