The Far East magazine is published by St Columban's Mission Society. It features articles and photographs by Columban missionaries from those countries where the missionaries work. The magazine was launched originally to promote mission interest in Catholic homes in Australia and New Zealand. The Far East magazine in Australia was published for the first time on 15th October 1920 and sample copies were sent to every parish and school in Australia and New Zealand.

Another diamond for Columbans
28.11.2008Fr Leo Baker was born on January 6, 1923 at Cobden in rural Gippsland, Victoria. He was the first in a family of 8, five boys and three girls. Their father, Jack, was a farmer from Pomborneit. His mother was the only daughter of Denis Thompson of Thompson’s Hotel, Cobden. more

New lives for prisoners

‘Vosa Vakaviti’ the Fijian language
28.11.2008Word’ is translated into the Fijian language as ‘Vosa’, ‘Vosa Vakaviti’ means ‘the Fijian language.’ The Columban Fathers thought words were so important that they established the Columban Translation Service. This is a project of translating Catholic written material into the Fijian language. more
