Celebrating Gold
02.07.2010
Fr Maurice O’Connor celebrates his 50th anniversary of missionary priesthood this year and we join all those who wish to congratulate him on this milestone in
his life.
He was born in North East Valley, Dunedin, New Zealand in 1933 and came to St Columbans, Essendon in 1954 to begin his studies for the missionary priesthood. He was ordained by Bishop John Kavanagh of Dunedin on July 24, 1960 and was appointed to Korea where he spent 40 years of his life serving the Church and contributing to its expansion. He was pastor in different places in that country: Kwangju, Pusan and Seoul.
After an appointment to Australia/New Zealand from 1981 -1984 when he was involved in mission appeals in Australia, he returned to Korea until 1998. That year he retired to New Zealand but continued to do mission appeals and mission education until ill health forced his retirement.
