Fr Peter O’Neill, Columban Peace, Ecology & Justice Coordinator, attended the Pacific Islands Civil Society Consultation on the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly & Regulation Migration in Nadi, Fiji from 2-3 November 2017.  About 40 people from civil society, faith based organisations, trade unions and academia gathered to discuss the situation of migration within and outside the Pacific Islands, and to give input into the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly & Regulation Migration. In Sept 2016 the UN New York Declaration for Refugees & Migrants paved the way for the development of two separate, distinct and independent compacts, one on Refugees and one on Migration.  These 2 Compacts will be finalized at the 2018 UN General Assembly.
