Pope Pius XI instituted World Mission Sunday in 1926 at the request of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.

Celebrated on the penultimate Sunday in October, World Mission Sunday calls the universal church every year to a renewed commitment to spreading of the Gospel message. Through our prayers and by donating we support missionaries everywhere in spreading the Good News and respond to Christ’s call to feed the hungry and clothe the naked.

In his message for World Mission Day 2018, "Together with young people, let us bring the Gospel to all.", Pope Francis encourages all Christians especially young people, to live our lives as a mission and to proclaim Christ and transmit the faith, which gives meaning to our life. He emphasised to do it with joy and enthusiasm.

Likewise, spreading the faith, which is “the heart of the Church’s mission, comes about by the infectiousness of love.” Love, he stressed, “generates sharing in charity with all those far from the faith, indifferent to it and perhaps even hostile and opposed to it.”

He also expressed his gratitude to all those ecclesial groups like parishes, associations, movements, religious communities, and the varied expressions of missionary service that make a personal encounter with Christ possible.
