In July, I had the privilege of joining more than 300 women at the Parra Villa Function Lounge in Parramatta for Sydney’s premier multicultural event for women, the Women of Diversity Dinner.
Now in its fourth year, the dinner celebrates our diversity and friendship.
On the invitation of Lynda Ben-Menashe of the NSW Jewish Board of deputies early in the year, I also had the privilege of becoming a member of the organising committee as a representative of Columban Centre for Christian Muslim Relations (CCCMR.)
In recent months, I worked towards creating the event alongside 15 women representing faith and cultural-based organisations, the Ethnic Communities Council of NSW, Afghan Women on the Move, Australian South Sea Islanders (ASSI) - Port Jackson, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Muslim Women's National Network, NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, Pontoxeniteas NSW, SAHELI, Settlement Services International, The Uniting Church, and individual women. Multicultural NSW sponsored the dinner.
Together we created a festive evening packed with quality vegetarian food, conversation, amazing prizes and entertainment.
The program consisted of Bollywood dancing, spoken-word poetry by Hani Abdile, Flamenco dancing, a multicultural choir, henna art, a traditional costume fashion parade, and singing by Dahlia Dior in no less than five languages! Oh, and lots of dancing!
