Pope Francis named May 2020 to May 2021 a Special Jubilee Year for the church to celebrate the 5th anniversary of his Encyclical Laudato Si’. St Columban’s Mission Society, a founding member and network partner of Global Catholic Climate Movement (GCCM), joins GCCM as it launchesLaudato Si’ Lent: “Lent 2021: A Journey of Hope”. GCCM is inviting individuals and communities around the world to embark on a Lenten journey of ecological conversion through reflection, repentance and renewal. Together.
Laudato Si’ Lent features weekly reminders and ideas about how you can live this journey of ecological conversion, including opportunities to connect with others through retreats, webinars, and prayer services.
Throughout #LaudatoSiLent, you’ll also find suggested activities on the Lenten calendar.
Each week will feature a “mini-fast” that will help all of us reduce our ecological footprint and reflect on our relationship with God and all creation.
Pope Francis says: “Social problems must be addressed by community networks and not simply by the sum of individual good deeds… The ecological conversion needed to bring about lasting change is also a community conversion” (Laudato Si’ 217).
Facing a worsening ecological crisis and climate emergency, we will acknowledge that we have ruptured our relationship with creation, and we will express sorrow for our actions. By committing to concrete changes, we will reduce our ecological footprint and inspire our sisters and brothers around the world to join this conversion process.
