On Monday, we shared the story of the birth of a baby boy to a homeless Venezuelan young girl, Brayannis in Chile. Columban Fr Daniel Harding working in Chile shared the good news of the birth of a baby boy in very troubling circumstances.

Tio Abuelo (Gran Uncle) Padre Daniel (Columban Fr Daniel Harding) picked up baby Tiago and mum Brayannis at the local hospital to bring them back home to our Migrant House, Casa Betania. Tiago is a form of the name, Santiago. (James!).

Brayannis has no family or support in Chile other than that of San Columbano parish. All her family are in Venezuela. She is a victim of domestic violence from the baby’s father, also Venezuelan. This is her first child.

It was a lovely experience collecting them from the hospital. She is so happy with her baby boy, smiling from ear to ear. The other women at the Migrant House as well as local parishioners will give her a lot of support.

In the hospital car park, a guy came out, being quite cranky, saying you can’t park here. Move!!! So I said, “Would you mind taking a photo first?” And he changed and said, “OK, no problem” and took the photo.

Columban Fr Daniel Harding is the parish priest of San Columbano parish, Santiago, Chile.
