2023 Abraham Conference

Abraham Conference 2023

The Abraham Conference plays an important role in bringing Jews, Christians and Muslims together to discuss contemporary issues of concern for the members of the three religions and for the wider society.

The theme of the 2023 Abraham Conference is The Abrahamic Religions in a Pluralist Society: Help or Hindrance to Peace?

In history and in the present, the Abrahamic religions have been used, abused, and misused for nationalist, sectarian, political, and ulterior motives, leading to conflict and violence. But at their best, the Abrahamic religions promote love, mercy, forgiveness, justice, peace, and reconciliation. How do our religions fare in the scales of judgement? Have we been a blessing to each other and to society, or a curse?

Exploring this question with us will be a keynote speaker from the Muslim faith, Dr Omer Atilla Ergi, from Charles Sturt University. Joining Omer on stage will be Jewish and Christian respondents, Rabbi George Mordecai of Emanuel Synagogue and Bishop Philip Huggins from the Anglican Church of Australia. Your moderator will be Jane Jeffes, producer and director of Firefly Productions and former executive producer of ABC Religion and Ethics. We will also invite you, our audience, to join in the conversation by participating in a lively Q&A with speakers, panellists and each other.

Conference partners – Affinity Intercultural Foundation, Australian Egyptian Forum Council, Australasian Muslim Times (AMUST), Columban Centre for Christian-Muslim Relations, NSW Council of Christians and Jews, Diocese of Parramatta, Ecumenical Council of NSW, Indian Crescent Society of Australia (ICSOA), NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, and the Uniting Church in Australia, Synod of NSW & ACT – look forward to your participation in a stimulating and thought-provoking afternoon of interfaith dialogue and friendship.

Halal and kosher vegetarian refreshments will be available.

Please share this event with your family, friends and colleagues and invite them to be part of this important interfaith conversation.
