Another Saturday in September marks another day of activity for the Season of Creation series of activities in the month. A time dedicated to advocating for, embracing, and celebrating the boundless creativity of God. On Saturday 14, the children of the Catholic Community of Lepanoni and Vunibuabua embarked on a meaningful journey, reflecting on the beauty and diversity of the natural world at their very own village.
The highlights of the children’s celebration were a special "Walk with Nature" event involving about 20 local children. This immersive experience began with a climb up a mountain that offered a breathtaking view of their village and the ocean. From there, the children explored a variety of natural landscapes, including lush bushes, expansive ponds adorned with vibrant tulips, and a scenic stream leading to the sea. Their journey continued onto the beach and out to the reef, where they experienced the dynamic ecosystems that exist at the water’s edge.
The walk also served as a nostalgic journey, as it mirrored the path that many of the children’s parents had traversed in their own youth. Earlier in the day, the children participated in a creative workshop where they engaged with the concept of creation in a hands-on way. Divided into six groups, they explored the six days of creation as described in the Scripture. Each group presented their findings, explaining how the elements created by God benefit both humans and other living things on Earth.
The excursion provided the children with a vivid reminder of the diverse habitats where living organisms thrive, showcasing how they adapt to various weather conditions and environments. This event not only highlighted the intricate beauty of our environment but also deepened our appreciation for the divine artistry that shapes our world. Through their explorations and presentations, the children gained a greater understanding of how interconnected and precious all aspects of creation are.
