National Recycling Week - 11th to 17th November

National Recycling Week (11th to 17th November) runs annually in Australia to help Australians recycle right and keep up to date with emerging developments on the better use of precious resources.

In addition to recycling right, the reality is that the relentless production and consumption of goods and services behind the waste problem is not in keeping with Earth’s capacities and is causing grave ecological harm linked to social injustices and inequities.

Pope Francis asks, “What kind of world do we want to leave to those who come after us, to children who are growing up? (Laudato Si’ n, 160.)” Pope Francis is critical of responses that don’t address underlying issues such as jumping to technological fixes to waste and other problems that are likely to be piecemeal. Rather, he suggests forming a willingness to struggle with deeper questions about the general direction, purpose and goal of the works of our lives. Through conversation, prayer and support, a solidarity of compassion and responsibility can grow to help anyone respond to local and global priorities for the Earth community.
