From the Director - Easter Message

The Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ is celebrated each year in most parts of the world.

The celebrations in countries like Iraq, Syria and Egypt, are tense affairs with Christian communities on the look out for attacks from fundamentalist extremists. Many Catholic people have left these countries for a safer existence in countries like Australia or the USA. It is a sad modern fact that the ancient Catholic faith is dimming in these countries, one hopes, not to the point of the flame of faith being extinguished.

It is true that the flame of faith burns less brightly in Europe than those other countries that embraced the Enlightenment. Attacks from atheists and  people of aggressive, secular attitudes are more prominent than before.

But what of it? People of faith come together wherever they are to celebrate the presence of the Risen Lord among us, His ever abiding presence. Many people suffer His Passion today but He walks beside them holding their hands. Like a good footballer He asks us to keep our eye, not on the ball, but on Him. He has overcome evil even though He was overwhelmed by it, but it was not the end for Him or for us. He overcame it. For us, hope does spring eternal; if we stay close to Him we will be at peace in our hearts; His presence in our lives means everything.
