Our daily bread

I can get so self-centred, concerned only with my own work situation, my career, my bonuses.

But there are so many in our world who struggle for their daily bread without benefits or pensions, who have to make do with so little, whose work can be so hard and demanding if they have any work at all.

I can feel ashamed of my selfish ways.

Lord help me to have a generous heart, to be considerate to those less fortunate, more thoughtful for others and their problems, anxious mothers who go without, desperate fathers trying to provide, undernourished children who still smile.

Lord, I need your Spirit to help broaden my vision of life, to put things in perspective.

Give us, dear Lord, not only the daily food that nourishes our bodies to sustain us in this life but give us the spiritual food that sustains us to eternal life.

For this food may we work with all our hearts.

Amen.
