September 2015

On 28 October 2015 we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Nostra Aetate, Vatican II’s statement on relations with believers from other religions.  It is very important to celebrate this interfaith milestone.  Nostra Aetate transformed the Church’s relationship with Jews especially, but also with people of all faiths.  The document continues to inspire us in Christian-Muslim relations, as shown in our varied activities:

  • Youth PoWR (Parliament of the World’s Religions) will bring hundreds of young people of diverse religions together to have a vote in shaping our multi-religious society (see insert)
  • The Columbans have launched www.columbanird.org,  a new website dedicated to interreligious dialogue, with plenty of resources for teachers and others (see insert) .
  • The Abraham Conference brings together Jews, Christians and Muslims (p. 2)
  • Muslims respond to Pope Francis’ encyclical on the ecology (p. 4)
  • Fr Brian Vale reflects on The Gift of the Other’s Faith (p. 5)
  • Ashleigh Green shares her poem “Underneath”, shortlisted for the 2015 ACU Poetry Prize (p. 6)  Congratulation!
  • Fr Patrick McInerney reflects on the anniversary of Nostra Aetate (p. 7)
  • For coming events (p. 8)

We wish our Muslim sisters and brothers عيد مبارك  Eid Mubarak for the feast of Eid al-Adha
