Columbans win Catholic Press Awards

Columban mission magazine, The Far East was a clear winner at this year's Australasian Catholic Press Association (ACPA) Awards, taking out two awards for Best Column and Best Ecumenical / Interfaith Story.

Best Column

Winner: The Far East Magazine
Columban Fr Gary Walker

There were many great columns and the best are those that use personal experience, and then extrapolate that for the greater interest. The Far East Magazine's columnist, Columban Fr Gary Walker writes in an accessible and engaging way.

When reading his column you can imagine that you are having a chat with Fr Gary, and he is imparting his insights to you personally.

Best Ecumenical / Interfaith Story

Winner: The Far East Magazine
A Chance Meeting by Ashleigh Green

The Far East Magazine article, A Chance Meeting was a clear winner in the area of increasing dialogue and links between the Catholic Church and other faiths.

A good story, it showed how a greater idea of generating dialogue and respect between different faiths can be displayed in an everyday incident. It brought a very human element to a big issue. The writing was clear, concise and also conveyed emotion. The article is also very topical in a time of, unfortunately, great mistrust between religions and presents a message of great hope.

Columban Fr Gary Walker is the Regional Director of St Columbans Mission Society for Australia and New Zealand and Ashleigh Green works in the Centre for Christian-Muslum Relations at the Columban Mission Institute in Sydney.
