2016 Christmas Appeal

Dear Columban Friend,

“The poor do not need our compassion or our pity; they need our help.” (St. Teresa of Calcutta)

I’m sure that St. Teresa would have approved of the help from Columban benefactors for the Internally Displaced Persons in Myanmar, who until recently, could see little future for themselves and their children.

You have helped to set up Columban Programs that include health education, building boarding houses for the safety and education of vulnerable young people, training of teachers and house tutors, early-childhood learning for those traumatised by war. Mine risk education is a priority for life skills of the children living in Kachin State.

Thank you for standing by those who struggle on the long road to justice, integrity and peace.

I ask you to support the Christmas Appeal so that, those living on the margins of life in countries where Columbans work, can face the future with hope and optimism.

As we gather together to celebrate the birth of Christ, let us remember our brothers and sisters in need as we say, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men and women.” (Luke 2:14)

May God’s blessing be upon you and your family this Christmas.

With every blessing,

Fr Gary Walker
Regional Director
Australia and New Zealand
