The Far East received the award for ‘Best Editorial’ at the annual Australian Catholic Press Association (ACPA) conferences in Bathurst last week.
The article, ‘Christians and Muslims in Asia and blasphemy laws in Pakistan’ by Fr Robert McCulloch was published in the November/December 2018 edition of The Far East.
Judges comments:
Fr McCulloch worked in Pakistan for more than 34 years and the clarity with which he describes the complexities of the Islam itself and its relations with other faiths, the countries in which it is the majority Faith and the role of the West is a fruit of that long engagement with the Muslim world. He avoids the all-too-easy characterisations of so much that has been written about Muslims and their religion and is candid in his assessment of Islam, Western countries and the Church and their actions in the past few troubled decades. This is a refreshing and enlightening piece of writing.
