The Obedient Face of Jesus
To learn the will of God as his loving Father, Jesus often went to a quiet place to pray, his face radiating obedience (Mk 1:35).
Jesus humbly went to Jordan to receive John’s baptism of forgiveness and begin his mission. His face remained calm as his fame spread throughout Galilee. (Mk 1:9, 28).
To us, Jesus might say, "Remain calm as I send you as my messengers in an era of rapid climate change. Learn from scientists. Obey the evolving rhythms of our planet, for they reveal the ways of the Creator."
Pope Francis cautions that systemic challenges, distinct but inter-connected, collectively contribute to significant turmoil in our world. [Address to the Pontifical Academies of Sciences on May 16, 2024.]
Scientists in the CSIRO, BOM, and universities bless Australian citizens with their findings on climate systems. We can trust their reports, which are based on data and not just speculative dreams.
Their websites detail climate impacts, such as extreme heat and rainfall events, changing ocean currents, and more. They set these impacts within the dictates of global economic and political bluster.
The Blayney Eco Hub is an example for followers of Christ. They 1/ describe 2/ evaluate 3/ act. Cooperating with local groups, they help face the impacts of a tsunami-like flood on the village of Eugowra; confront gold mining companies polluting the headwaters of the Belubula River. (Let the Son Shine, pps. 32 & 57).
Key to keeping hope alive is accurate knowledge - head joins with heart for followers of the Cosmic Christ. It leads to prayer.

Prayer in a Time of Rapid Climate Change
I arise today through the strength of heaven
Light of sun, radiance of moon
Splendor of fire, speed of lightning
Swiftness of wind, depth of the sea
Stability of earth, firmness of rock
I arise today through God's strength to pilot me
God's eye to look before me
God's wisdom to guide me
God's way to lie before me
God's shield to protect me.
