Though we are just beginning August, we want to focus this month on something in preparation for September: the integrity of creation and biodiversity. Biodiversity is a gift of evolution. God’s creation, human and non-human, has and continues to evolve in a myriad of ways that interact in the miraculous complexity of the web of life. However, according to Columban Fr Sean McDonagh, biodiversity is threatened by human behaviour. (read more)

The Columban Centre for Peace Ecology and Justice presents a Catholic Season of Creation for the Sundays of September 2016, a new liturgical resource. It aids priests and liturgy leaders to help worshippers look at the Sunday Readings with ecological eyes.

Reflection
The invitation to humility, to look after the poor, to compassion and mercy, is a constant call within Christian spirituality, from Jesus, through history, to all who call themselves Christian. Become like a little child. Take the lowest place. Consider others before yourself. Recognize that we’re all in need, we’re all broken in some way or other. (read more)

Growing a Culture of Peace Bulletin - For Parishes and Schools
Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’ challenges all people to care for Earth, our Common Home. In becoming flesh in Jesus, God became part of the matter of the universe, bestowing blessing on all of creation. God rejoices and celebrates the diversity of all life. We rejoice and celebrate God in the interconnectedness and diversity of all life. By growing in appreciation of this treasure, we grow in love for God and each other. (Download PDF Bulletin)
News from the Centre
Irish Columban Fr Sean McDonagh SSC, a world known eco-theologian is visiting Australia in early November. Anne Lanyon Coordinator of the Centre has started planning Sean’s visit and event timeline which will include public events in Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne. (read more)
