This month we look at some of the issues around hunger. The Lenten invitation of fasting is challenging for me. We live in such a consumerist culture and the temptations are everywhere. A vast array of food choices and dining out options are a wonderful part of Australian life.

It’s the edginess that can help us ask the right questions about our priorities, to distinguish want from need, luxury from necessity. It’s the edginess that can enable us, at least in some small way, to be aware of what millions face every day, for whom fasting and hunger are matters of life and death, not lifestyle choices. : I will never forget the generosity of the poor rural people in Northern Bangladesh. We were visiting villages where the people mostly struggled to feed their families a decent meal each day. Hunger was a constant companion. (Download PDF Bulletin)
