One of the ways the Columbans show interfaith solidarity with their Muslim sisters and brothers is by offering a greeting for Eid al-Fitr each year. Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fast observed by Muslims during Ramadan. The staff at the Columban Centre for Christian-Muslim Relations in Sydney join in iftar dinners during Ramadan, visit the mosque with Muslim friends on their feast days, and gift them greeting cards along with the Vatican message for Ramadan by the Dicastery of Interreligious Dialogue. As Eid al-Fitr approaches each year, the Centre staff also post this video greeting on social media to thank their Muslim friends for their hospitality during Ramadan and to acknowledge the importance of this Islamic observance for their faith. As an instrument of peace and love, perhaps you could offer a simple greeting to colleagues, neighbours and friends during their religious observances in acknowledgement of their faiths and cultures?
