Some of our friends and supporters may remember two Irish Columban missionaries, Fr Peter Kenny and Fr Seamus O’Connor who died recently in Ireland. Both of these men worked for a number of years in Australia.

Fr Peter Kenny was assigned to mission promotion in Australia for eight years from 1995 to 2003. He visited many parishes in the dioceses of Sydney, Perth, Geraldton, Bunbury and Brisbane appealing for subscriptions to The Far East magazine and promoting the work of the Columbans around the world. Fr Peter also served on mission in the Philippines, USA and in student formation in Ireland.

Fr Seamus O’Connor was stationed at the Columban house in Essendon for six years, 1966 to 1972, while he was chaplain to the Overseas Students Centre in Melbourne. He welcomed newly arriving students from Asian and African countries and accompanied them as they faced the many challenges of life and study in a new environment and on several occasions he officiated at their weddings.

Fr Seamus also served on mission in Fiji and Peru and in student formation in Ireland.

May Frs Peter Kenny and Seamus O’Connor rest in peace.
