Regional Council

The Missionary Society of St Columban Regional Director for Australia and New Zealand is assisted by a Vice Director and a Regional Council of three members, all of whom are elected for three year terms.

The current Regional Council officeholders for Australia and New Zealand are:

  Regional Council member, Columban Fr Trevor Trotter

Vice Director - Fr Trevor Trotter SSC

Fr Trevor Trotter was ordained to the Columban priesthood in 1970. His first mission appointment was to the Philippines. He has spent five years in Hong Kong on the General Council and has worked as a Scripture Lecturer and in the formation of seminarians in Sydney and the United States. Currently, he works for Fr Dan Ryan, Vicar for Clergy in Brisbane Archdiocese, providing spiritual direction for the clergy as well as being involved in the formation of deacons.

Rev Dr Patrick McInerney SSC

Council member - Rev Dr Patrick McInerney SSC

After ordination in 1978 Fr Patrick was assigned to Pakistan for over twenty years. He completed Arabic and Islamic studies in Rome, Italy in the mid-80s. He returned to Australia in 2000 and was assigned to the Columban Centre for Christian-Muslim Relations (CCCMR) Centre. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Australian Catholic University and a member of various interfaith organisations.

  Fr Thomas Rouse SSC

Council member - Fr Thomas Rouse SSC

Fr Thomas (Tom) Rouse was ordained to the Columban priesthood on 8 May, 1976. Fr Rouse was appointed to Fiji in 1976, where he spent most of his missionary life. In 2014 he was appointed Mission Coordinator of St Columbans, Lower Hutt, in New Zealand.

Council member - Fr Peter O'Neill SSC

Fr Peter O’Neill is the Peace, Ecology and Justice Co-ordinator for the Australia/New Zealand Region.  He returned to Australia in 2017 year after working in Taiwan for 26 years with the poor and abused migrant workers.
