Gift in Will

Columban Bequest

By leaving a gift to Columban Missionaries in your Will, you become a partner in our work. This is called a bequest or a gift in will — a charity that leaves a lasting and hopeful legacy for the future. Your generosity will help us continue our work to:

  • Support self-improvement programs with the poor and oppressed in the countries where we work.
  • Bring God's saving message to Christians and non-Christians and show our love for Christ.
  • Support the preaching of the Gospel within other cultures.
  • Support communication and understanding between Christian and non-Christian traditions.
  • Support education for justice, peace and the integrity of creation.
  • Demonstrate your care for the whole of creation.

GIFT IN WILL INFORMATION REQUEST

St Columbans Mission Society can only continue to carry out our lifesaving work with the poorest people in the world thanks to donations. One way you can choose to donate is through a gift in will charity gift, which would be given to our organisation once you pass on.

Legacy donations to charity are left in your will, and if you choose to leave this kind of bequest to Columban, you can be assured that it’ll be used to help those most in need in the 16 countries where we operate.

It’s easy to bequest to charity: how a gift in will works

The process of leaving a gift in will charity donation to Columban is simple. You can choose to leave us a fixed amount or a percentage of your estate, and you then simply need to ensure this is stated in your will. Once you pass on, your executors will then organise your bequest to charity, as per your wishes, and Columban will use your donation to help fund our work.

Bequests or gift in will charities have different types, and you can choose between:

  • Specific bequest — Designate a particular asset, such as a sum of money or property, as your gift in will charity.
  • Residuary bequest — Allocate a portion or the remainder of your estate to the charity after all debts and expenses have been settled.
  • Percentage bequest — Leave a percentage of your estate to charity.
  • Endowment bequest — Designate that your gift in will charity should be invested, and only the income or a portion of it is used to support the charity’s work.

By choosing to leave a gift in will charity to the Columban Missionaries, you become a partner in our life-changing work. Your generosity contributes to the welfare and betterment of communities in need, and it ensures that your values and beliefs continue to make a positive impact on the world long after you're gone.

A legacy, also known as a bequest is a gift in your Will to a person or organisation, such as a charity.

Your will is an important expression of your wishes. It ensures that your estate is distributed as you wish and that your loved ones and favourite charities that you've nurtured throughout your life are taken care of after your death.

Making a Will is not a difficult exercise. A visit to a solicitor or Public Trustee can provide the assistance that you need. It is advisable to discuss your intentions to make a charitable gift with your family.

If you already have a Will and wish to make an amendment to it, then a codicil to your Will is an addition a solicitor can make.

These are some gift options to consider for your Will:

A fixed sum Gift

"I give and bequeath the sum of $.................... to the Regional Director for Australia of St Columbans Mission Society to be used for that Society's general purposes as the Regional Director sees fit.

I declare that the receipt of the treasurer, bursar or other proper officer of the Society shall be a full and sufficient discharge for my trustees."

Percentage of the Residue Gift

"I give and bequeath the sum of ..........% of the residue of my Estate to the Regional Director for Australia of St Columbans Mission Society to be used for that Society's purposes as the Regional Director sees fit.

I declare that the receipt of the treasurer, bursar or other proper officer of the Society shall be a full and sufficient discharge for my trustees."

It is a sad reality to know that poverty and oppression continues to increase around the globe. We ask you to consider leaving a gift to Columbans in your Will so that we can continue God’s mission in working in solidarity with the poor and exploited.

By being a partner in Columban Mission, Your Columban Legacy will make a difference. As our founder Bishop Galvin would simply advise, “Do what you can”. On behalf of St Columbans Mission Society we would like to Thank You for your support.
