Dear Columban Friend,
“Open our eyes” (Pope Francis)
“Never before did I find it so hard to write a few lines about a given situation. The nation is numb, shell-shocked and overwhelmed, so are we.”
These were the opening words of a report sent to Columban Regions by Fr Donal McIlraith, Regional Director of Fiji, describing the devastation that Cyclone Winston had caused.
Columbans work in many other countries where people are suffering on a daily basis from natural disasters, substandard living conditions, human trafficking and hunger.
Pope Francis reminds us in this Year of Mercy to open our eyes and see the misery of the world, the wounds of our brothers and sisters who are denied their dignity.
I would like to thank you for your compassion and commitment to Columban Mission. You have enabled us to work with victims of tragedy and injustices. Your support has helped us to keep our eyes open and see the misery of the world.
In 2018 St Columbans Mission Society will be 100 years old. We could never have hoped to achieve this milestone without the support of our Columban benefactors. For this I thank you.
I ask you to support our 2016 Mid-Year Appeal to ensure that we continue to live the Gospel message to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
To make a donation to the Christmas appeal, please fill out the 2016 Mid-Year Appeal Fillable Donation Form (pdf) and return to Columban Mission Centre by mail (PO Box 752, Niddrie, VIC, 3042) or fax (+61 3 9379 6040).
I thank you once again for your ongoing support and especially during this Year of Mercy.
With every blessing,
Fr Gary Walker
Regional Director
