The World Day of Peace was launched in 1967 by Pope Paul VI. In these times which Pope Francis says “we find ourselves engaged in a horrifying world war fought piecemeal” he asks “God to help all of us to cultivate nonviolence in our most personal thoughts and values. May charity and nonviolence govern how we treat each other as individuals, within society and in international life.” He goes on to say, “to be true followers of Jesus today also includes embracing his teaching about nonviolence.”

The Columban Mission Institute’s Centre for Peace, Ecology and Justice is part of the Catholic Nonviolence Initiative www.nonviolencejustpeace.net which is a growing global network which offers resources for parishes and individuals wishing to learn more about the practice of and education about Gospel nonviolence.
