November 2015

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the victims of violence, their families in Paris, Beirut, and other parts of the world.

This issue of  Bridges highlights Youth PoWR (Parliament of the World’s Religions). It was a wonderful event that brought together over 400 young people from across Sydney to meet, discuss, vote and have a voice in shaping our multi-religious society.  The auditorium was filled with positive, youthful energy, which augurs well for the future.

  • Youth PoWR was a celebration of religious diversity (pp 4-5)
  • Youth addressed a message to civic and religious leaders (pp 6-7)
  • Youth addressed a message to their peers (pp 8-9)
  • Nostra Aetate is the ground-breaking document that initiated this new Catholic attitude to other religions  (p 10)
  • Youth PoWR takes its name from the Parliament of the World Religions, held 15-19 October in Salt Lake City USA (p 11)
  • There are the usual News from the Centre (p 2), News from the World (p 3) and Coming Events (p 10)

Come and listen to Professor John Esposito, a leading expert on Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations in English-speaking world at ACU Strathfield at 7.30pm, 2nd December.  (download event flyer)

Noting the proximity this year of the celebrations of the birth of the Prophet (23 December) and the birth of Jesus Christ (25 December), we hope and pray for similar closeness between their followers.  Wishing you all a very happy feast day!
